Twerton High Street 31.05.2018

Despite organising numerous litter picks and attempting to make our community a cleaner place, some people feel it is acceptable to just dump bags of rubbish wherever and whenever they want.

I met with Curo this morning to discuss specific issues on Twerton High Street, which is not helped by the household rubbish bins being left on the pavement all day, every day as the residents have nowhere to store them.

I am pleased to say the large amount of flytipping has been removed and a few options were discussed during my meeting to find a suitable location for the bins.

I will update you further as soon as a more permanent solution has been agreed.

If, however, you are experiencing issues like this near you in Twerton or Whiteway, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Dog Fouling Campaign – May 2018

At the beginning of April, fed up with the small number inconsiderate dog owners who fail to clean up after their dogs, I decided to launch my own Dog Fouling Campaign.

Following conversations with the local dog warden and with the full support of Bath & North East Somerset Council I contacted 3 local schools in the South West of Bath, St Michael’s Junior School, Twerton Infants School and Roundhill Primary School to get the pupils involved and design a poster to be displayed across the area to highlight the issue in an attempt to reduce the number of incidents.

168 posters were returned from the schools as part of the competition and the local Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse chose one from each school to be reproduced. Last Thursday 17th May, I accompanied the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Rob Appleyard on a visit to each of the schools to announce the winners and award their prizes. I also knit toys that I sell for charity, so I handmade each of the prizes that were given to the children along with their very own Dog themed bags.

I would like to congratulate all the entrants, but specifically, Ruby Lucy at St Michael’s Junior School, Lily at Twerton Infants School and Poppy at Roundhill Primary School on their winning designs.

Posters are now starting to go up and with residents and dog walkers being fully supportive of the initiative we are hoping the visual impact of the posters will have a positive outcome.

In conjunction with this campaign, me and several other residents in Twerton have set up Twerton & Whiteway Wombles who arrange monthly group litter picks around the whole area with a view to making Twerton one of the cleanest urban areas of BANES to live, I recently met with a representative from Keynsham Wombles to discuss how we could work collaboratively to tackle the ever-increasing issues experienced by all residents.

To keep up to date with my various campaigns, I have my own facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/sarahmooretwerton/ feel free to follow.

North Way Update 02.05.2018

I have had a meeting at North Way with the Cabinet Member for Highways and a BANES Highway Officer.

I am pleased to say they have agreed to get the vey dangerous pothole at the top of the hill repaired immediately.  They have also agreed to have to 2 areas need the bottom of the road are dug out and filled properly, instead of just a temporary.

They have also agreed to get a survey completed of the entire road as it is in such a poor state, it is need of replacing.  Once the survey is completed they will put forward the costings to be included in next years’ budget to ensure the road is fully repaired.

I will update you again on progress with this road as soon as I know more.

High Street Litter Pick 20.04.2018

On Saturday the Twerton & Whiteway Wombles were out and about on the High Street and surrounding area clearing the large amount of litter that has been left.

It was great to be joined by volunteers from Timebank plus and other residents to help make Twerton a clean and pleasant area to live.

We do regular pre-organised litter picks around the area as well as ad-hoc clear ups, so please do feel free to join us and help get this area looking really nice.

New number 5 Bus route 17.04.2018

Just to confirm, Firstbus will be changing the number 5 bus route on 29th April 2018 as per the recent consultation.

This is initially for a trial period to see if the new route will work, after which they will decide if the new route will be adopted or if it will revert back to the previous route.

Therefore from 29th April 2018 the number 5 bus will be travelling to the end of Newton Road, going up Pennyquick, turning into The Hollow, down to mini roundabout by Beehive Surgery, where it will turn up into Haycombe Drive.  It will go around Haycombe Drive to the stop at the circle of trees, it will the go back around the trees and then down North Way to pick up the old route back down through Twerton and into town.

This is the route that was proposed by Firstbus following numerous issues on roads around Twerton. It will mean that people living on Wedgwood Road, Poolemead Road and Shaws Way would need to remain on the bus from town until it comes back down through Twerton.

We will also be monitoring this new route as there are a few points of concern.

Dog Fouling Campaign 2018

As many residents know, dog fouling around Twerton/Whiteway is getting really bad.  I have launched a campaign to try and get this sorted.

I have spoken to the BANES dog warden and 3 local schools, Twerton Infants, St Michaels Juniors and Roundhill Primary and got agreement for the children to design a poster that can be displayed around the area to try and highlight how important it is to clear up after your dog.

I have hand knitted a “low maintenance” dog for 3 lucky winners (1 from each school) and will be arranging for the posters to be printed and erected across the area.

If you witness incidents of dog fouling that is not being cleared up please do contact BANES with as much information as you can to try and help make our community a cleaner place for all to enjoy.

North Way – Road Condition 06.04.2018

Here are a few images of the worst parts of North Way.  I have been trying to get this road put into the budget to have a full structural repair as I did last year with Kelston View.

I have been requesting a meeting on North Way with the Cabinet Member for Highways, however, he has not yet responded to any of my emails.

These are the questions I have asked:

The deteriorating Road surface at North Way and Poolemead Road is causing concern.

1) I am sure the cabinet member is confident that the advice of his officers to only monitoring and patch repairs as required will keep this road in a safe condition for heavy buses to run both ways on, but will he agree to meet me on site to see for himself the problems that I am talking about.

2) Will he listen to local residents who are concerned for the safety of the road and its users and conduct a safety audit on this road and agree to carry out urgent works if they are identified as a result of the road safety audit.

I look forward to receiving a response to these questions
